We just got back from the Grand Canyon West Rim. I have to say he view was beautiful! But now for the down sides. We didn't realize that we had 17 miles of dirt and gravel road to travel, not at all hadicapped or elderly accessible and cost $43.00 a person to see? There were no rails any where around the canyon. If you have small children beware...We had a son with a handicap riding a scooter, Which scared all of us. No smooth walk ways and rough terrain all around us. In our opinion it's not ready for view just because it has the Sky Walk which cost and additional $32.00 to go on! ALso this was our second trip in a week to see it because the day we drove from Las Vegas we got their and it had rained and flooded the 17 mile road causing closing from the entrance and exit. People were stranded at the canyon till they could be pulled out. Please watch the weather before going and go to the SOuth Rim if all possible. We went to the West Rim because of the new Sky Walk and travel distance from Vegas. I would never got to that end again or recommend it unless the roads and rails were finished. They also need to let everyone know the cost of the adventure so they don't wait till they park their car and walk to the building on site to find out.

I thought the West Rim would be an easier trip from Las Vegas in our rental car than the South. This info helped me re-evaulate that idea. Thanks.

These two individuals have probably made a good call. We can't stress enough that Grand Canyon West is still a little bit on the "wild" side - a good thing to some, but not to everyone.

By the way, check out the National Geographic Channel's website to learn more about a recently aired episode of their series "Man Made," which literally took us inside the Grand Canyon Skywalk, from conception to design to construction. Fascinating stuff!

Blimey, was planning to use a rental car but think I'll give it a miss. The south Rim seems a lot better option.
